The historically settled local population and the migrant settlers (foreigners and Ecuadorians) organized themselves and formed the Sustainable Caimito Association, seeking to give continuity to the conservation of the territory based on local agro-ecological practices and the generation of projects such as sustainable tourism. The association was formed to prevent the advancement of projects that threaten the sustainability of the forest, such as large-scale tourism, eucalyptus plantations, logging, cattle ranching, and drug trafficking.
