READY FOR BEIJING +30?
In 2020, we celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Platform and Declaration, the Generation Equality Forum was an opportunity to reaffirm the centrality of land rights to women's rights. As the international community came together to reiterate the need for strong and concrete commitments from all actors, this collective statement underscored the importance of meaningful implementation, a global and participatory vision of women's land rights, and intersectional policies to meet the challenges of our time and the needs of millions of women around the world.
WHO MADE THE COMMITMENT?
Many members of ILC were actively engaged in the draft of this commitment as well as Oxfam, FEMNET, the Global Land Tool Network, UN-Habitat and supporting partners including UN agencies, governments, regional governmental bodies, CSOs, private sector, research and academia and multi-lateral organisations.
Why is this commitment important?
The upcoming Beijing+30 is an opportunity to galvanise global attention and action on women's rights. By making a collective commitment to advance women's land rights, we can build on this momentum and ensure that land rights are recognised as a core element of women's empowerment and sustainable development. The collective commitment to women's land rights ahead of Beijing+30 is a critical step towards achieving gender equality, environmental sustainability and inclusive economic growth, all of which are central to the global development agenda.
4 KEY FACETS OF THE COLLECTIVE COMMITMENT
