WOMEN'S LAND RIGHTS IN ZIMBABWE
Women constitute about 65% of the rural population yet they accessed less than 18% of the land that was distributed during the Fast Track Land Reform Programme.
This research in two Districts of Zimbabwe, Goromonzi and Vungu-Gweru, examines problems encountered by women when accessing and securing land.
It looks at barriers and opportunities for using land productively and attempts to fill gaps in knowledge around women’s access to land and land use by learning from women themselves. This project built capacity among women farmers and provided a platform for dialogue with stakeholders, including policy makers and the private sector. A number of recommendations to improve the social, political and economic transformative impact of land reform in Zimbabwe are included.
