The Agrarian Reform of the 1980s in Nicaragua left some 50,000 beneficiaries without adequate regularization of their land tenure. The Rural Legal Services Program (PSL) by Nitlapan-UCA established a national network of lawyers and specialists in regularization, legal technical assistance and training to assist producers to formalize their tenure. Nitlapan facilitated the identification, negotiation, purchase and legalization of land for hundreds of farmers and rural workers. The program engaged local institutions and the community in identifying and implementing agreed solutions to the growing social demand for land.
