CODECA staff and members confronted repercussions after the publication of a report stating human rights violations by powerful landowners in Guatemala. Repercussions included 40 arrests, 117 acts of aggression, 2 dead people and a discredit and defamation media campaign. Despite this, CODECA continued the struggle and implemented community resilience mechanisms which resulted in judgements of acquittal from the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention and the Guatemalan justice system, therefore obtaining the release of detained defenders. This experience changed and positioned CODECA as a movement coordinating urban, rural and Indigenous Peoples´ struggles nowadays aiming to transform Guatemala in a multinational State.
