The land community in Nepal has been engaging in significant debate and discourse about the scope, importance and need for paradigm shift in both policy formulation and implementation in the post-Constitution era. One of the thematic areas of such discussions has been the ‘localisation’ of land governance and policy-making processes, where the role of local governments remained at the centre of the dialogue.
In this context, this policy brief aims to systematically synthesise the discussion related to the ‘Role of local governments towards land governance and policy formulation’ at the High-level Land Policy Dialogue organised in February 2022 in Dhangadhi, and district-level discussions organised in Kailali, Kanchanpur, Sunsari and Morang. Key recommendations for people-centred land policy formulation and their true implementation at the local level are presented in this brief.
