The Women’s Rights for Inclusive Development and Growth in Africa (WIDGRA) project is a 3-year project funded by the European Union (EU), the International Land Coalition (ILC) and other Oxfam partners. Oxfam International, the Institute for Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies (PLAAS) and Plateforme Régionales des Organisations Paysannes d'Afrique Centrale (PROPAC) implemented the project, which works to promote women’s land rights in Cameroon, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique,Togo and South Africa.
The project released a scorecard: a tool which measures how governments implement their commitments on women’s land rights. It tracks how policies and laws on women’s land rights are being put into practice. As this publication shows, many countries have developed good policies and laws to guarantee women’s land rights, but they are slumbering in implementation.
Via this publication, the project hopes to inspire rural women to hold governments accountable for their commitment to their rights.
