APRIL | ILC WEBINAR "WOMEN'S LAND RIGHTS MATTER!"

This webinar is mainly addressed to CBI 4 platform members, women organisations in general (members and non-members) and potential stakeholders with an interest in this area of work. It aims to position the WLR CBI platforms by showing their main goals and activities, and also to discuss ILC workplan towards Beijing+25. It will help boost collaboration among the regional and global CBIs, and also with other stakeholders.

MAY | ILC WEBINAR "The challenge of protecting community land rights"

Following the publication of "The Challenge of Protecting Community Land Rights: An Investigation into Community Responses to Requests for Land and Resources" by NAMATI, this webinar aims to educate land rights advocates, government officials, funders, policy makers, etc. about the complexities of how best to support communities to authentically decide whether or not they will share their lands with government agencies, international investors, and national elites.

It will also identify the ways in which powerful actors fail to get genuine FPIC, and explore strategies to ensure against bad faith land claims by those with power, money, and access to state force.

JUNE 8-12 | TRAINING "UN DECLARATION ON THE RIGHTS OF PEASANTS"

Deadline for applications: 24 May 2020
Location: Geneva Academy, Switzerland

This training analyses the origins, drafting and content of the United Nations (UN) Declaration on the rights of peasants and other people working in rural areas (UNDROP), and provides participants with practical tools to include the UNDROP in their work. Two examples of national implementation – in Colombia and Switzerland – are discussed. Themes covered include the rights of rural women, as well as the rights to food and food sovereignty, land and other natural resources, and seeds and biological diversity.

JUNE | ILC WEBINAR "LEARNING LANDEX: HOW TO GENERATE PEOPLE-CENTRED DATA AND REPORT ON SDG"

In this webinar, we offer an introduction to the LANDex tool and an overview on how to implement it at the national level, according to organization priorities and capacities. It will show how LANDex can be used to monitor the VGGTs, SDGs and will include concrete results and sample products and outputs from countries that have implemented LANDex, including sample SDG Shadow Reports.

SEPTEMBER 7-11 | TRAINING "SDG AND ECONOMIC, SOCIAL AND CULTURAL RIGHTS"

Deadline for applications: 16 August 2020
Location: Geneva Academy, Switzerland

How complementary are economic, social and cultural rights (ESCR) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations (UN) in 2015? Which mechanisms exist to monitor their implementation? What is the role of UN human rights mechanisms in monitoring ESCR and the SDGs? Which lessons can be learned from the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) period?

This training explores the relationship between ESCR and SDGs and provides participants with practical tools to include ESCR and the SDGs in their work. Themes covered include the rights to health, food, water, sanitation, housing, education, work, and social security, and the SDGs related to these rights.

OCTOBER | ILC WEBINAR "WORKING WITH LANDEX: THE PEOPLE-CENTRED LAND MONITORING TOOL"

In this webinar, we offer an introduction to the LANDex tool and an overview of how it is being used by ILC members and strategic partners. We will show how LANDex works to centralize a number of important land monitoring initiative, allowing ILC members to contribute people-centred data to these platforms according to their methodologies. In addition, we will look at how LANDex data has been used in policy debates and in SDG Shadow Reports, specifically in Nepal, South Africa and Peru.

OCT 22 | ILC WEBINAR "DÉFENDRE LES DÉFENSEURS DES TERRES EN AFRIQUE: COMMENT CRÉER DES SYNERGIES ET MENER UN PLAIDOYER COMMUN"

Ce webinaire vise à discuter des expériences sur la façon d'utiliser un plaidoyer informé pour soutenir les défenseurs des terres africains en difficulté. Il s'appuie sur deux initiatives soutenues: le Fonds africain pour les défenseurs de l'environnement et l'initiative basée sur l'engagement (CBI) sur les défenseurs des terres pour discuter des stratégies et des outils utilisés pour le plaidoyer. Il espère partager des techniques et des outils de recherche qui soutiennent les OSC et les OBC à construire des arguments au niveau local.

NOVEMBER | ILC WEBINAR "LAND INEQUALITY: AN ILC RESEARCH INITIATIVE"

After the launch of the ILC Land Inequality Synthesis Report and 19 associated papers (in September 2020), this webinar aims at raising further awareness on the key messages and findings deriving from the research, summarised in ILC’s manifesto on land inequality. Invited speakers will be selected among the authors of the released studies and other experts on land inequality, especially in connection with global crises in today’s world such as climate change, democracy crisis, migration. The webinar will also present and discuss with participants the use of the land inequality research in support of advocacy operations and campaigns.

What is the potential of an information ecosystem for unleashing land rights of communities, tribes, women and others? What actions are necessary? How can we move towards a culture of collaboration rather than duplication? Learning from others rather than reinventing the wheel? The webinar will identify the most urgent challenges ahead, and key areas that may result in progress.

FEB 27 | WEBINAR "ENABLING VOICES, DEMANDING RIGHTS" (OXFAM, IISD)

This webinar will present a brief introduction of the guide by Oxfam and IISD "Enabling Voices, Demanding Rights: A guide to gender-sensitive community engagement in large scale land-based investment". It will begin with an overview of the key steps in agriculture-related land investments, defining what community engagement looks like in that context. The second half of the webinar will highlight emerging evidence and provide examples from the tool’s pilot phase, seeing how the tool can be adapted and applied.
